What is PowerView+TM Gen 3 Automation?
PowerView+™ Gen 3 Automation is a premium control option in the PowerView® Gen 3 family that provides wired control of PowerView Gen 3 window treatments. It shares all of the simplicity and scalability of the PowerView Gen 3 platform with enhanced reliability and quieter motors. PowerView+ Gen 3 utilizes low voltage wiring to both power and send serial commands to the window treatments.

What is Serial Communication?
Serial communication is a method for transferring data.

• PowerView+ Gen 3 utilizes low voltage electrical wiring to send PowerView® App commands to the shades via serial communication.
• Commands sent via serial are not subject to the same restrictions that limit radio frequency communication.

How does PowerView+ Gen 3 work?
There are three essential components to the PowerView+ Gen 3 system:
PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments, a PowerView Gen 3 Gateway, and a PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply.

PowerView+ Gen 3 Window Treatments
Window treatments with PowerView+ Gen 3 are unique in both their hardware and programming. You can identify a PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatment by its unique power cable. PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments have been specifically programmed to work in the PowerView+ Gen 3 system and communicate via wired communication. 

PowerView® Gen 3 Gateway
The PowerView Gen 3 Gateway works with the PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply to send and receive signals to and from window treatments. The gateway acts as a traffic coordinator for PowerView commands, sending commands over the wire to the Smart Power Supply, and then the Smart Power Supply then sends these commands over the wire to the shades.

• Only one Gateway is required per PowerView+ Gen 3 project.
• Either a PowerView Gen 3 Gateway or PowerView Gen 3 Gateway Pro can be used.

PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply
The PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply works together with the PowerView Gen 3 Gateway to send PowerView commands to and from PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments.

• It utilizes low-voltage electrical wiring to provide both power and communication to the automated window treatments.
• It connects to the same home network as the PowerView Gen 3 Gateway via an Ethernet connection.

Control Options
PowerView App The primary method for controlling window treatments in a PowerView+ Gen 3 system is through the PowerView® App. Any PowerView commands sent via the PowerView App will be communicated via serial commands.

PowerView Pebble and Surface Remote

• In addition to wired communication, PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments retain their ability to be controlled via Bluetooth® radio frequency. This means that these window treatments can still be controlled with the PowerView® Pebble® and Surface Remote.
• It is important to remember that any commands sent using either of the remote options utilize radio frequency and are subject to the potential restrictions of that form of communication.

Power Options and Wiring

PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply
The PowerView+™ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply works together with the PowerView® Gen 3 Gateway to send and receive PowerView commands in a PowerView+ Gen 3 system. It utilizes low-voltage electrical wiring to provide both power and communication to the PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments.

Additional Information

The PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply must be connected to the home network via an Ethernet connection.

PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply Wiring

• The primary method of making the connections between the PowerView+™ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply and PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments is using a combination of PowerView+ Male Plug-In Connectors and four conductor low-voltage electrical wiring.
• The PowerView+ Gen 3 system requires a four-conductor low-voltage electrical cable with two conductors (12-18 AWG) for power and two conductors (20-24 AWG) in a twisted, shielded pair for data.
• All cabling is recommended to have a Class 2 flammability rating and is also recommended to meet VW-1 and FT-1 flame rating standards. The PowerView+ Bulk Cable is the perfect choice for this application.
• Refer to the PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply Wiring Guide for wiring distance maximums.

Male Plug-In Connectors

• The terminations at the PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments are made using PowerView+ Male Plug-In Connectors.
• The connectors are compatible with 16-24 AWG low-voltage electrical wiring. Stranded larger gauge wire can be modified to fit the connector.
• Two packages of eight connectors are included with the PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply.

PowerView+ Daisy-Chain Cable (Optional)

• The PowerView+™ Daisy-Chain Cable can only be utilized with the PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply.
• Up to three PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments may be powered from a single output on the PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply.
• The PowerView+ Daisy-Chain Cable is used to make the connections in the daisy-chain system.
• Ordering
  — If there are two window treatments in the daisy-chain system, one daisy-chain cable must be ordered.
  — If there are three window treatments in the system, two cables must be ordered.

PowerView+ Bulk Cable (500 ft.)
The PowerView+ Bulk Cable is primarily used to make the custom cables between the PowerView+ Gen 3 Smart Power Supply and PowerView+ Gen 3 window treatments in a PowerView+ Gen 3 system. It can also be used with 16 Shade DC Power Supply in standard PowerView® systems.
